The historic Gale River Motel, a beloved White Mountains landmark with roots dating back to the 1930s, has been acquired by new owners who plan to transform the property into a wellness-inspired destination inn. The comprehensive renovation project will preserve the property’s nearly century-old legacy while introducing modern amenities focused on relaxation and rejuvenation, with a planned reopening as Gale River Inn in Spring 2026.
The acquisition represents a significant investment in White Mountains tourism infrastructure, bringing together historic preservation with contemporary wellness hospitality trends. The new owners envision creating “a place that feels both timeless and new – a haven of quiet comfort where every detail is rooted in hospitality,” drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of the surrounding White Mountains region.
Comprehensive Wellness-Focused Renovation Planned
The transformation will reimagine the traditional motel experience into a wellness retreat where guests can “slow down and breathe deeply.” Planned amenities include:
- Fully renovated guest rooms designed for comfort and tranquility
- Lush garden spaces perfect for morning coffee and reflection
- Pool and sauna facilities for relaxation
- Indoor and outdoor hot tubs offering year-round wellness options
- Thoughtfully curated spaces inspired by White Mountains’ natural beauty
We’re reimagining the motel into a wellness-inspired inn where travelers can slow down and breathe deeply,” the new owners explained. “From morning coffee in the lush new garden to evenings spent beneath starlit skies, our guests will have an opportunity to unwind at their own pace.“
Expert Real Estate Guidance Facilitates Smooth Transaction
The successful acquisition was brokered by Mark Bouzianis, a Commercial Real Estate Specialist with Keller Williams Coastal Land and Commercial Group, whose expertise proved instrumental throughout the process.
“From the outset, Mark played an important role in helping us navigate the acquisition,” says owner Max Karr. “His combination of real estate expertise and firsthand experience in hotel ownership provided a valuable perspective throughout the process. The collaboration and open communication made the journey smooth and productive.“
Preserving Nearly a Century of Hospitality Heritage
During the renovation period leading up to the Spring 2026 reopening, the property remains available for guests looking to experience the charming White Mountains area in its current historic form.
